African Black Soap

Many sing the praises of this natural cleanser. It can be used for face, body and hair care. When I initially found out about black soap, I was interested in using it for skin care (facial cleanser). After about a month, I discovered this was not a keeper for me. However, I’ve used this for hair and have had nice results. It cleanses the scalp and hair without stripping it. You can use the bar directly (as you would a shampoo bar) or you can break it down from a solid to a liquid. I’ve only used the bar in solid form but I will be making a liquid shampoo in the future.

Here is one recipe I found:
Black Soap Shampoo
-16ounces of distilled water
-african black soap
-jojoba oil
-coconut oil
-extra virgin olive oil
-vegetable glycerin
-rosemary essential oil
-tea tree essential oil

1. Fill a plastic container with distilled water and crumble pieces of black soap into it. Note that the more pieces you put in will turn out a thicker consistency of shampoo.

2. Leave in cool dry place for 24 hours.

3. After the wait the black soap should be dissolved and the water thicker. Give it a stir and continue to add 2tbsp of jojoba oil, coconut oil, olive oil, 3 tbsp of glycerin, 10 drops of rosemary and tea tree oil.

4. Give it one last stir and pour into an empty shampoo bottle you can adjust ingredients depending on your bottle size and hair type.

You can check out this link for more information about black soap. If any of you have tried (or plan to try) African black soap, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for reading. Be blessed!

Hi Amina! Since I have several bars, I got home and decided to start my shampoo tonight but I'm not following this recipe to the letter. I'll get to test this out tomorrow when I wash my hair.

Hi, I looooove black soap, and I break it down into liquid form as well with a very similar recipe to which you have here. It is great , this is the only soap I use to cleanse my hair.

I also use the bar for cleaning my face, it's great !

Keep us posted on your results. Take care.

@ zainab1 - do you have to store the liquid in the refridgerator?
